BlazBlue: Continuum Shift

July 30, 2010

Lord knows, I love a fighting game! Here is why: You really get a bang for
your buck! Its awesome game play, hours and hours of fun, and with the ever-popular online multiplayer, you can play even more, with a very wide variety of people, plus you get to meet new people! To me, fighting games are like performances; a fatal dance between to fighters. Its exciting, it pumps you up, takes away the stress, and its just downright fun! My favorite type of fighting games are the 2-D fighters: the Vs. Capcom series, Street Fighters, Guilty Gear, and now….the BlazeBlue series!

The newest entry for the series, “BlazBlue:Continuum Shift”, is sort of like a remake of the first game of the series, “BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger”. Allow me to explain why it is sort of a remake.

The story is the same. Its set in a world that was ravaged by a Black Beast. A long the war against the evil entity, 6 warrior, known as the 6 Heroes, created a form of battle called Ar Magus, combing magic and technology and triumph. After the war, an organization called the Novus Orbis Librarium was created to keep a control over the Grimoires needed to learn and use Ar Magus. With such a control, rebels were bounded to riot against the organization, but something deeper is going on in the NOL……….

The gamesplay is sort of like Guilty Gear, given the fact its done by the same development team, Arc System. You got a light, medium, heavy, and Drive attack. The Drive attack differs depending on the character you use: Ragna uses his soul-absorbing ability, Jin freezes people, Tsubaki charges her special attacks, etc. You also got Distortion moves (kinda like Super Combos in Street Fighters) and Astral Heat moves that will completely destroy your opponent in a hit, like Destroyed Move in Guilty Gear. You are given the the original 12 characters from Calamity Trigger plus you get 3 new characters in Continnum Shift: Tsubaki, a hardcore military girl bent on honor and devotion to duty. Hazama, a sinister captain of NOL. and Mu, The God-Slayer.

They rebalanced the game really well. Commands for the special moves are alot more fluid, a more in-depth look into the story of BlazBlue, compared to what they did in Calamity Trigger. I really loved this game! I played this game yesterday from 9 in the morning till 6 in the afternoon, non-stop.

If you haven’t played a BlazBlue game, forget Calamity Trigger and go straight to Continuum Shift. If you have played Calamity Trigger and didn’t like it, give Continuum Shift a chance, they really made it alot better. And chances are if you liked Calamity Trigger, you probably already got Continuum Shift, and that makes us automatic friends.
